Sava recognizes the vulnerable nature of those we serve and the staff who care for them. Sava has taken the threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) very seriously and has taken steps to ensure our Centers are as prepared as possible. In the event cases become more widespread, we want to be able to respond swiftly and have aligned our internal protocols with the CDC’s updated recommendations and protocols.

The following high-level updates are imperative to our streamlined communications for our patients and their families, as well as our staff and partners. Please note, in order to support our teams and those we serve, comprehensive Communication and Preparedness Kits have been distributed to all client centers with the latest available information.

  • Effective March 18, 2020, all centers have moved to Reverse Isolation. Visitation is restricted except in situations of hospice or end-of-life situations. Additional exceptions may be made for residents with significant psychosocial or clinical needs which participation by a visitor is necessary. Furthermore, if there is a need to complete admission paperwork or to complete medical authorizations, visitation will be permitted.

  • Essential vendors will be allowed to enter our centers, but will be screened daily, following staff screening processes. Persons considered essential vendors include:

    • Physicians or providers caring for residents in the center, including Pharmacists, Dieticians, hospice, mental health professionals, and laboratory services, etc.
    • District and Division Team members who have a reason to be in the center for clinical and/or operations support
    • Life Safety

  • Non-essential vendors (sales calls, vending machine vendors, scrub vendors, pharmaceutical reps, etc.) will be restricted from occurring at this time.

  • Like many, we are taking every precaution necessary to ensure our residents and patients, staff, and visitors are as prepared as possible given the recent news. Since early March, we have distributed Communication and Preparedness “Kits” to all Centers, and have sent continued revisions based on CDC recommendations.

  • Our Center teams have the most current information and prevention guidelines available, including guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and other associations and societies that are experts in respiratory infections.

  • Each Center has been implementing increased screening measures for residents, staff, visitors and vendors to minimize the risk of affected individuals from visiting the center.

  • We have adopted the International Travel and Employee Requirements Regarding Coronavirus as proposed by the CDC to ensure individuals with recent travel to affected countries are not visiting centers.

  • We are working diligently according to CDC guidelines to reduce the risk of the spread of respiratory infections through standard and enhanced infection prevention practices, such as a focus on sanitation of our Centers, hand hygiene compliance, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • We have communicated with our vendors of essential supplies and equipment to ensure they have developed plans to continue to meet the needs of our patients and residents throughout the situation as it progresses.

  • We continue to monitor reported State and National infection patterns as the CDC reports updates and will adapt our procedures and infection prevention strategies in conjunction with emerging CDC and local emergency response guidelines.

  • Additional updates and resources will be available for Sava staff on our company intranet site, Sava Central, and on the Clinical Central website.
